Organizing and Launching a Multi-farm, Workplace-based CSA in Arkansas

Working with long-time partner, Heifer Project USA, SCALE helped design and organize a work place-based Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA enterprise, focusing on Little Rock and surrounding communities. Launched in 2014, the CSA surpassed 400 shares in 2015 and is projected to reach 600 shares in 2016. The number of participating farmers has also grown steadily, with 15-20 expected to produce for the CSA this coming year. The farmer group is finalizing a transition to becoming an independent, producer-owned cooperative. SCALE has provided both hands-on training and technical assistance for the farmers, along with organizational and business development consulting to the leaders and staff of the enterprise.
