SCALE Helps Corbin Hill Food Project Team Strengthen Food Desert Work in Harlem
In the fall of 2013, SCALE worked intensively with senior staff of the Corbin Hill Food Project to help work through a range of challenges facing their 800 member CSA in Harlem and the South Bronx. Launched in 2010 to address food access and health issues in some of New York City's poorest communities, Corbin Hill has built a CSA in partnership with more than two dozen community organizations, and more recently began selling wholesale to hospitals, schools, Head Start, drug rehabilitation and other organizations serving people in need. SCALE provided both on-site technical assistance, trouble shooting and assistance in developing a long term strategy and business plan. According to founder and Executive Director, Dennis Derryck, "Anthony was incredible in helping us sort through the facts, stay motivated in the midst of all the pressures and find the truth about our strengths and weaknesses. He pushed us to be honest with ourselves and find the best way forward."
